displayed several new motion mechanisms

Hickory Springs announced that the company recently showcased a complete line of newly developed motion products at Interzum Cologne 2011, the leading international trade fair for furniture production and interior finishing. The Hickory, NC-based company is one of the United States’ largest integrated manufacturers and an international supplier of components for the furniture and bedding industries.

“Showing innovative products is what trade shows are all about,” said Ben Thayer, Vice President of International Marketing & Operations for Hickory Springs. “It was gratifying to bring such a broad range of new motion mechanisms to Cologne, especially those designed to appeal to international markets.”  Hickory Springs President Don Coleman and Dwayne Welch, Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, also represented Hickory Springs at the 2011 Interzum trade fair, which was held May 25–28, 2011 in Cologne, Germany.

Hickory Springs introduced and displayed several new motion mechanisms during the international trade fair, including a power rocker mechanism with a newly developed safety ottoman; a new lift and recline mechanism with a new lock system with improved movement; a motorized extended high leg mechanism; and a motorized link mechanism with an adjustable motorized headrest. Motorized mechanisms are widely accepted in the European marketplace — Hickory Springs is looking forward to introducing them to the US market.

“The European market is hungry for new motion innovations,” Welch explained. “Our new introductions were received well at Interzum and should translate quite nicely into the domestic market as well."

Hickory Springs’ on-site Interzum show space also welcomed international HSMC (Hickory Springs Manufacturing Company) Distributors from Australia, Russia, Italy, Spain, United Kingdom, Poland, China and Canada.

“I am so proud to be a part of Hickory Springs' team,” said Maurizio Ravaioli, who has been distributing HSMC products in southern Europe since the early 1990s. "This show is the biggest in Europe for our products."

According to recently released data, a total of 52,400 trade visitors attended the four-day Interzum trade fair in Cologne. Of these visitors, 17,900 were from Germany, 34,500 were from 147 other countries around the globe (approximately 66 percent).

“With such attendance, we feel certain that Interzum: Cologne was great global exposure for the Hickory Springs brand name,” Thayer concluded. “Our presence there helped generate leads as well as create new and exciting potential business opportunities for us and our customers around the world.”

One of North Carolina’s largest employers, Hickory Springs is a privately held company based in Hickory, North Carolina, with more than 50 manufacturing plants in 16 states and China. In addition to its core furniture and bedding markets, Hickory Springs also serves a growing range of customers in the automotive, recreational vehicle, packaging, medical, marine and telecommunications industries.
