SCFMA Names 2002 Design Excellence Winners: Brown Jordan Takes Best of Show Award for Wave Chaise

Brown Jordan’s Wave Chaise took top honors in this year’s Design Excellence Awards program co-sponsored by the Summer & Casual Furniture Manufacturers Association and Merchandise Mart Properties Inc. Brown Jordan’s chaise won the coveted Lillian B. Winchester Best of Show award. The chaise also won in the Tubular Materials category, one of eight product categories in the competition. Other winners were as follows: Cast metal furniture: Cast Classics Landgrave, Palazzo Arm Chair. Cast combination furniture: Gloster Furniture/Nathalie de Leval/Andrew Jones, Metro Dining Chair with arms. Wrought iron/wrought aluminum furniture: Kettler/Royal Garden, Pilo Chair. Resin/fiberglass furniture: Laneventure, Three-Position Adjustable Chaise. Rattan/wicker/woven materials furniture: Gloster/John Caldwell, Plantation Dining Chair. Wood casual furniture: Laneventure, Teak Extension Dining Table. Complementary: Gloster/Staffan Hultgren, Riviera Trolley. About 30 manufacturers submitted more than 80 product designs to compete for Best of Category in eight categories. Of the eight category winners, one is selected Best of Show. The awards program is designed to recognize innovation and creative product design. The Summer & Casual Furniture Manufacturers Association and the American Furniture Manufacturers Association are headquartered in High Point, N.C. – the furniture capital of the world – and together represent more than 200 leading U.S. furniture manufacturers and an additional 250 suppliers to the industry. About 80 of those manufacturers produce summer and casual products.
