Latex Foam Products (LFP) has been selected as a finalist for the Second Annual Corporate Citizenship Award being presented this Thursday, December 6 in Washington, D.C. by the United States Chamber of Commerce. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Chamber’s Center for Corporate Citizenship (CCC), the Committee to Encourage Corporate Philanthropy and the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise, award winners were selected based on exceptional leadership and community assistance, either abroad or at home, during the year 2001. LFP was honored for its efforts to assist its 240 Connecticut-based employees after a fire destroyed its headquarters and manufacturing facility last May. Other finalists for the Corporate Citizenship Award include: AIG, Coca-Cola, Latex Foam Products, KPMG and U.S. Steel Kosice. The winner of the CCC Corporate Award will be announced in a ceremony being held tonight at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce building. "This is indeed an honor for us to be included with the other finalists for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Corporate Citizenship Award," said Steve Russo, President and CEO, LFP. "We have always valued the contributions of our employees, some of whom have been with us since we started doing business 25 years ago. We look forward to remaining a strong presence in the Connecticut region as we resume manufacturing operations this Spring in Shelton, CT." Russo added, "We’d also like to thank the state and local agencies who played an essential role in helping our employees during this difficult time." LFP acted quickly to assist its employees following the fire that destroyed its facility located in Ansonia, CT. In addition to arranging for $1 million in supplemental pay, LFP organized an employee meeting at the local high school where local and state agencies were invited to advise employees on how to secure unemployment benefits, job retraining services, career counseling, utility, rent and food assistance and retirement planning advisement.
