Argentina, Brazil and Chile have a combined furniture production worth more than US$ 6,250 million: Brazil is the leading furniture producer and the largest furniture market in the area. Furniture production is still linked to satisfying domestic demand, but furniture exports are growing. This report describes trends in furniture production and consumption, international trade, prices and distribution in Argentina, Brazil, Chile. Factors determining the demand for furniture and furniture distribution channels are examined. For each country furniture imports and exports are broken down by country, product (office furniture, kitchen furniture, upholstered furniture, non-upholstered seats, bedroom furniture, furniture parts). Short profiles of the main furniture manufacturers and distributors are available. Foreign furniture manufacturers have shown growing interest in the furniture industry of the area: commercial and productive agreements and joint ventures with local furniture companies are being set up. Particularly dynamic is the office furniture segment: Giroflex, Haworth, Hermann Miller, Steelcase, Knoll and Voko are among the furniture companies active on the South American markets via licensing agreements or with their own facilities. The report presents an analysis of opportunities on the local furniture markets. Forest resources and semi-finished wood products are also considered.
