What happens when you take groups of preschoolers, an E-commerce business and a former hospital? You get Head Start at FurnitureFind.com in Buchanan. Several area children will soon attend preschool classes at the FurnitureFind.com Campus, (the former Buchanan Community Hospital). The need for services has increased in the area but a lack of suitable facilities has created problems. Head Start launched a search and FurnitureFind.com came to their rescue! "We're very pleased to be able to help Head Start in this initiative," says Stephen Antisdel, President of FurnitureFind.com. "Too, working with Head Start will help us to develop a template to provide on-site day care services for our employees in the future." Classes for the children, ages 3 to 5, begin shortly after all inspections and new plumbing installations are complete. The morning group meets from 8:30 until 11:30, the afternoon group from 1:00 until 4:00, Monday through Thursday, according to Cindy Bewick, Education Services Manager for Tri-County Head Start, headquartered in Paw Paw. "We certainly appreciate the community support from the folks at FurnitureFind.com. It is a unique partnership that truly helps children and families. We're excited about the possibilities." Tri-County Head Start, a single purpose non-profit agency, receives Federal funds to provide services for 1,082 low-income children and their families in Berrien, Cass, and Van Buren Counties. The Michigan Department of Consumer and Industry, Bureau of Regulatory Services licenses classroom space. Early childhood development, health, family and community partnerships are key service areas, according to Bewick, who stresses that parents are welcomed as important partners in their children's education.
