Karel Exposition Management enjoyed a record-setting year in producing eight regional furniture and accessory markets across the nation in 2000. "Exhibitors displayed their latest home products in approximately 5,000 booths at our markets," said Larry Karel, president. "We also ha d tens of thousands of retail buyers and store owners attending our shows. Both those figures were the highest in recent years." In 2001, Karel Exposition Management is expecting even greater turnout for its regional shows, which allow manufacturers to exhibit their merchandise for three days in a convenient regional location. "If the national economy slows, as expected, our shows gain an even greater importance," Karel said. "Some buyers may find the cost too great to travel a long distance to a national show. In addition, our shows provide a very cost-effective alternative for manufacturers who are concerned about the expense of creating a permanent showroom." Karel Exposition Management is making arrangements for additional space in four of its upcoming markets. In the winter and summer Edison, NJ shows, for instance, the company will create additional exhibit space by utilizing a large-scale pavilion. In Long Beach, CA, greater convention center space has been requested, and in New England, the regional market will be moving from Fitchburg, MA after the winter show to Worcester, MA, where extra space is available.
