For anyone who's ever needed a reason not to get out of bed on the weekend -- Sealy's got one! The nation's largest bedding manufacturer sponsored the first annual "Tour de Sealy" Bed Race in High Point, North Carolina on Saturday, August 1 and Sunday, August 2, 1998. "Tour de Sealy," a race to raise money for charity, was open to all local civic organizations businesses, and churches, and took place in downtown High Point during The inaugural North Carolina Furnishings Festival, a two-day street festival held in celebration of High Point's proud home furnishings heritage. The rules of the 'Tour de Sealy" race were simple: Beds should have wheels, be powered by a team of six people with two manning the headboard and two on either side- Each bed had to go down the raceway individually. Teams had two chances to make their best time - one on Saturday, one on Sunday. The fastest time over these two days was recorded.
