“Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is the eleventh in a series or excerpts from a new book by retail furniture store design and planning experts Lou Kief and Bill Walls titled, "Doing Retail Right", a new book available from the major online booksellers in print and e-reader formats. Most successful retailers share a powerful common trait. They are genuinely enthusiastic about what they are doing. The lack of enthusiasm in a person’s life is immediately recognizable, they feel depressed and unhappy, trapped in work they don’t enjoy. Life seems to be one set of problems after another.
Webster defines “enthusiasm” as “a strong excitement of feeling, something inspiring, zeal or fervor.” Appropriately, they list “passion” as a synonym.
You need to know how utterly critical it is that you are able to express enthusiasm and passion. It directly affects your ability to achieve success in business. Even more crucial, it affects your ability to experience the joy in your daily life.
Fortunately, genuine enthusiasm and passion are qualities that are available to each of us. They come from deep inside and are rooted in the most simplistic joy of doing what we truly love to do.
Please stop for a second and reread the last sentence. It contains the answer to success and happiness. If you love what you do, then you are already experiencing the greatest of all occupations.
Enthusiasm is the piece that completes the puzzle. It is the single most powerful thing separating successful retailers from mediocre ones. It is also highly contagious. When an owner has it, the entire company comes alive. Employees, customers and even your vendors want to be around you. They too want to experience the magic and the prosperity.
The chemistry of enthusiasm sets up unlimited possibilities because it opens you up to change!
