Larger Edison, NJ Furniture Show Re-Introduced As Annual Event

Furniture World News Desk on 8/30/2014

Larry Karel, owner of Karel Exposition Management, announced a sweeping change in his company’s show history. The Karel Exposition Edison Market in Edison, New Jersey will now be held on an annual basis, February of each year.

“I am very excited that the 66th Edison Furniture & Accessory Market will be an annual February event and every February, thereafter,” Karel said.

According to Karel, many in the industry prefer that the major markets be held yearly, rather than on a semi-annual basis. Karel, who for nearly 54 years of having his finger on the pulse of the national furniture industry, gave careful consideration before making this announcement official.

“The industry should know I am not greedy. With the economy slipping as it has for so long who knows what is a head of us? One show a year is sufficient and for us, and that time of year is the winter. The industry can buy for the rest of the year and if they should wish to reorder, they always can contact their manufacturer’s representative or wholesaler for additional goods to carry them through,” Karel said.

“The response to our announcement at the August Edison show was amazing and a number of companies secured additional square footage for 2015 knowing they will see the regional buyers of New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania along with other surrounding states just once a year,” he added.

Karel reports that news of the annual Edison show has received extremely positive reaction. “The Greater Metropolitan Furnishings Association endorsed the move with great enthusiasm,” he said.

“It’s all about bringing the products to the buyer and writing business. We want our exhibitors to grow and prosper with us,” states Karel.

Now that space assignments are underway for February 2015, Karel’s team is reposting that exhibiters are extremely happy with attending the Edison show on an annual basis.

“Why are industry members happy? It is called money. They do not have to repeat all the steps that are costly to them in order to participate. In addition, the excitement of just one show in the east a year is already creating excitement and should expand the size of the market considerably,” Karel said.

Karel Exposition Management is the nation's largest producer of regional furniture and accessory trade shows. The attending buyers who come to Edison, the vast majority of whom are not in attendance at the markets such as High Point, Las Vegas and Tupelo.

“Everyone agrees that Edison is a phenomenon in in the regional furniture market shows. For some unexplained reason there is an amazing chemistry between sellers and buyers. If you’ve never been to our Edison market before, I can assure you it’s a winner,” said Karel.

The show, the largest of its kind in the northeast, is open to furniture stores, interior designers, specialty stores from the furniture industry as well as hotels and motels. Attendees will see and meet new sources exhibiting furniture, bedding, lighting and decorative accessories.
