Furniture World News Desk on 10/17/2014

High-end solid wood case manufacturer, Durham Furniture, announced its highly successful licensing agreement with George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the first president’s beloved estate in Virginia.

Since 1860, more than 80 million visitors have made George Washington’s Mount Vernon the most popular historic home in America. Through thought-provoking tours, entertaining events, and stimulating educational programs on the estate and in classrooms across the nation, Mount Vernon strives to preserve George Washington’s place in history as “First in War, First in Peace, and First in the Hearts of His Countrymen.”

Mount Vernon is owned and operated by the Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association, America’s oldest national preservation organization, founded in 1853. The Mount Vernon Ladies’ Association receives no federal funding; sales of Mount Vernon products support the Associations preservation, research, and educational programs.

Gord Dilworth, Durham President and CEO  states, “We are pleased to partner with two of the premiere designers in the industry. Chris and Thad Bergelin are designing a collection that evokes the rich tradition of George Washington and Mount Vernon, yet embraces his insight for today’s design.”

Beverly Addington, Director of Product Licensing for Mount Vernon adds, “We are pleased to partner with a company that creates its fine furniture totally in North America and who understands our proud legacy.”

The Mount Vernon Collection will continue to be available through Durham dealers and key furniture stores across the United States and Canada.

“I can truly say I had rather be at home at Mount Vernon with a friend or two about me, than to be attended at the seat of government by the officers of State and the representatives of every power in Europe.”-  George Washington to David Stuart, June 15, 1790
