Ambrosia Chair Back Group Introduces at High Point Market

B. Pila Design reported that following up on positive response to its  Hide & Seek Collection launch in April,  the company has released the next tier of the firm’s premiere namesake furniture and accessory line. The founding inspiration of vintage acrylic restyled with unexpected materials has evolved from organic elements to metallics, gemstones, and touches of art and glamour to create a “modern baroque” mood. This second series comprises of the effect applied to signature Hide & Seek pieces as well as new designs.

“I’m not quite done with my beloved acrylic just yet,” said Principal Designer Bea Pila, who created the Hide & Seek collections with fellow designer and daughter, Garbriela Noelle. “We’re enjoying the process of exploring exotic elements to combine with this endlessly versatile material. This time, we wanted to not only amp up the drama, but also evoke an emotional response that only a true statement piece can do.”

Hide & Seek’s original paradox of sleek-with-organic has been glamorized with hair-on-hides splashed with metallics or overdyed in deep gemstone hues, as seen on new interpretations of the Phoenix Bench, Tipsy Pouf and iconic Player’s Chair. Kilim textile cushions on the Ambrosia chairs are updated with ones of paintings transferred onto velvets by artist Jessica Zoob. Customized tabletop options for the Marrakesh series now include mirrors with antique-laced patterns embedded from behind. The Stepping Stone Side Tables showcase a bolder side with an expanded color selection, as well as larger options with tops mimicking the ring patterns that swirl within sliced geodes. A new Dreamcatcher series takes on a mystical nature with smaller options meant to be layered, feathers dusted in golds and silvers, and crystal “branches.”

New furnishings are envisioned to have an accessory-like effect, complementing the original oversized pieces with smaller-scale offerings and highly stylized silhouettes. Suspended brackets play with straight lines and curves, while wall-anchored shelving, tables, and leaning planter have the impact of a vertical art installation. Floor pillows of overdyed hair-on-hide and vintage rugs provide comfortable viewing of the portable television easel that can double as a display for artworks. Woods, metals, mirrors, and craftsmanship techniques are highlighted in unusual ways, inlayed and seemingly floating within their acrylic bases. All pieces extend customized options via varying materials, finishes, and color selections/combinations.

“Offering elements of customization elevates these furnishing from a level of design to one of art.” explains Pila. “With many of the techniques I use for Hide & Seek - pattern creation, color and materials combination, and so forth - I don’t know exactly what I’m going to end up with, making each selection truly one-of-a-kind. It’s the details that make you linger over them.”

The Hide & Seek additions were showcased at the recent High Point Market, in the IHFC Building Interhall 201. Prices range from $475 to $15,000. Hide & Seek is part of B.
