Connextion by Jenny Jones, a diverse collection of hand-knotted rugs was recently launched with Jaipur Rugs during April’s High Point Market. We sat down with the Australian designer to capture her thoughts. Based in the coastal city of Perth, the long-time retailer and rug designer believes that area rugs can radically change a space or breathe new life into a stale product vignette.

The Right Rug for Your Living Space
According to Jenny, rugs can take on a variety of functions – from artwork for the floor to a strong base of color & texture which can act to ground the room. After determining the appropriate size and general style, the next step should be color. Everyone has a favorite family of colors, so be true to what you love. You can also look at your rug as a place to bring a fresh new color into your palette. Pillows and rugs can act as the accent – dramatically updating a space with little effort.

Making Rugs Work in Your Retail Spce
Jenny suggests thinking of your vignette as a large picture frame. The rug is the frame that defines the space and acts as an invisible wall to separate the segments of your retail environment. It’s an anchor point that provides the foundation and connects all the elements. With their rich palettes, texture and pattern options, they allow an opportunity to incorporate new design motifs or reinforce those established through your furniture selections.

Soft Goods Keep Things Interesting
Jenny understands the difference that subtle changes can make. You don’t have to change every aspect of a store vignette or living space to reinvigorate the look. A rug is more interchangeable, and often cheaper, than a sofa or dresser. The addition of pillows and throws can also be an easy way to spruce up your displays as well.

For example, you may have a store setting developed around a gray scheme for Winter. As you move into Spring, you might want to change something to keep customers engaged with the same core products again and again. Coordinating pillows and rugs in a fresh new palette, along with new lighting and tabletop accessories, can update your display. A low investment to make a huge impact!
