Furniture World News Desk on 4/29/2015

Founder & former president of Elran Furniture, Mr. Irving Lubin, passed away peacefully by his families’ side Wednesday, April 22nd, 2015. He was 91 years old.

He began his career as an upholsterer in the furniture industry & in 1967, went into business for himself, co-founding Elran Furniture with then partner Harry Schaffer. They were the first to bring reclining furniture to another level.

The business expanded with the addition of reclining loveseats & recliners in 1980, again an industry first.

From there, the company continued to grow & moved to its present location in Pointe-Claire in 1987 where today, it employs over 500 people.

In 1994, Mr. Lubin handed over the presidency to his son, Mr. Sheldon Lubin, who today is still the acting president along with his brother in-law, Vice-president Mr. Eric Abecassis. Their sons, Jesse Lubin & Michael Abecassis, the 3rd generation, now also have an acting role in day to day business & production.

Even after his retirement, he would still come to the office several times a week to talk & share his 50 years of experience in the furniture industry.

He was a very charismatic character who loved to learn, loved the business and the people. Anywhere he went, shows, conferences, factory tours, people knew him. They had great stories to share with him & they thanked him more than often for giving them those ideas that turned their lives & businesses around.

Thanks to his vision & perseverance, Elran is what it is today, 48 years strong.

He will be missed by all.
