Furniture Store Ad Tips From Mike Winicki: The Five Ways To Create An Ad

Furniture World News Desk on 7/1/2015

There are only 5 ways to approach doing an advertisement:
  • Focus on the Product
  • Focus on Price
  • Focus on the Offer
  • Focus on the customer
  • Focus on the customer’s “Reason Why” for buying your product
Most ads we see in the retail furniture segment are focused on 60% Price, 30% Product and 10% on the customer.

When it comes to Walmart I would say their ads are 90% Price and 10% Product. Car ads are usually 50% Product, 40% Price and 10% Customer.

The health industry does a terrific job of focusing on the customer’s “Reason Why” by using headlines that catch the eye of the consumer needing that product for specific malady– “Yeast Infections Making Your Life Miserable?”

In the old days of advertising many of the ads that you find in newspapers and magazines did a much better job at flagging the potential customer using “reason why” advertising. Today many ad designers and store owners simply do not have a deep enough understanding behind the psychology of advertising to do anything more than focus on price.

One way furniture retailers can differentiate themselves from their competition is by going to a “reason why” approach rather than constantly trying to hammer away with a $399 Queen mattress set or with a $299 recliner.
