Upholstery producer Best Home Furnishings reported that it held a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of a $3.1 million facility expansion. Officials expect the new building to be complete by August of 2016.

The newly constructed 100,000-square-foot expansion will boost the size of the company’s overall facilities to 1.2 million square feet. The building will allow the company to move production of highly tailored products, which will create more efficient processes in other areas, the company said. The expansion will be a catalyst for new job growth.

“The new plant will enable Best to streamline and realign manufacturing processes for even greater efficiencies,” said Brian Lange, president of Best Home Furnishings. “Our last expansion came in 2000, and since then we have doubled our sales. Best can only grow so much within our walls, and the time has come to expand to facilitate further growth.”

The company currently has nearly 1,000 employees in Ferdinand, Jasper, Cannelton, and Paoli, and Lange said Best Home Furnishings opted to expand in its hometown because “the area continues to supply us with very skilled individuals who possess a strong work ethic. Ferdinand is where we want to be; it’s our home.”

Town of Ferdinand representatives, as well as several retailers from Ohio, were on hand to help celebrate the growth of the family owned company. “Founded with humble roots, Best Home Furnishings is a true American dream success story,” town council president Ken Sicard said. “To be one of the largest furniture manufacturers in the country and continue to invest in their Ferdinand home, we couldn’t be prouder.”
