AHFA Signs On As ‘Anchor It!’ Campaign Advocate

Furniture World News Desk on 4/27/2016

The American Home Furnishings Alliance (AHFA) reports that it was among 20 organizations announced recently as “Advocates” supporting the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission’s “Anchor It!” tip-over awareness campaign.

The CPSC launched its Anchor It! program in January 2015. According to the agency’s data, a child in the United States is taken to the emergency room every 24 minutes as a result of a tip-over incident. The Anchor It! campaign is a call to action that educates parents and caregivers about the potential dangers of furniture and television tip-overs in the home and urges them to take low-cost steps to prevent these tragedies.

In addition to AHFA, organizations that are Anchor It! Advocates include the American Academy of Pediatrics, Children’s Safety Network, Children’s Hospital of Chicago/Injury Prevention Research Center, International Association for Child Safety, Kids in Danger, Meghan’s Hope, New York State Department of State, Safe Kids Worldwide, Shane’s Foundation and Walmart Stores Inc.

As an Anchor It! Advocate, AHFA recently coordinated a “Tip-Over Prevention Is Everyone’s Business” campaign, which seeks to involve all segments of the residential furniture industry in helping to educate consumers about potential tip-over hazards in the home. The campaign points manufacturers to the AHFA website, www.ahfa.us, for information on how to comply with the voluntary furniture safety standard (ASTM F2057-14) and directs others to the CPSC website, www.anchorit.gov, for information and resources to help educate consumers.

“From furniture designers to product manufacturers to retail stores and the sales associates who work in those stores, we can all play a role in educating parents and caregivers about tip-over hazards in the home,” explains AHFA CEO Andy Counts.
