BDI President Returns from 2nd Women's Health Initiative Tour at City of Hope

BDI recently announced that earlier this month, BDI President Lorri Kelley joined a group of a dozen furniture industry executives from across the country for a first-hand look at the incredible advances being made in cancer and diabetes treatment – and the importance of corporate philanthropy.
City of Hope, one of the nation’s largest and most impactful cancer and diabetes treatment and research campuses, opened its doors once again to this group, allowing participants to see and hear personally about the lifesaving discoveries, treatments, and breakthroughs that could someday better the lives of the millions of people affected by these diseases.
This was the second year Kelley has participated in the tour, which was organized by the Women’s Health Initiative. Kelley, a member of the National Executive Board of the International Home Furnishings Chapter of City of Hope says she was thrilled to see several familiar faces from the industry, and a few new ones joining the cause as well.
“Diseases like cancer and diabetes affect everyone in some way,” said Kelley. “When united, the home furnishings industry has a lot of market power and by getting behind this initiative, we can make a major impact in the lives of so many.”
BDI is committed to doing just that – and is in fact making a financial commitment. Earlier this year, BDI announced it was designing a pink version of its popular mobile media table, Bink, adorned with a breast cancer awareness logo, and signed by designer, Matthew Weatherly. Only available in a limited quantity, Pink Bink is now shipping to retailers nationwide, with proceeds from its sales through the end of the year benefiting City of Hope and its breast cancer programs.
After her first tour in 2016, Kelley said she saw how important it was to bring in BDI as a corporate sponsor of the cause – something she’d like to see more companies doing.
“After touring the City of Hope campus in person, we knew that as a company we needed to do something special to support this wonderful organization,” said Kelley. “Our hope is that funds raised through the #ThinkPinkBink initiative will impact families and our communities for generations to come, and continue to support the great work of City of Hope.”
