City Furniture, a homegrown Florida company, recently announced that it put its team and resources to work, supporting local organizations in recovery efforts after Hurricane Irma struck Florida. City Furniture dispatched crews for immediate cleanup at area not-for-profit facilities, reached out to the hard-hit Florida Keys, and launched a fundraising effort to provide furniture donations for those rebuilding.

As Irma passed, City Furniture rallied its manpower, trucks and logistics know-how to tackle labor-intensive needs, helping several not-for-profits to get back up and running. Working with 4KIDS, an organization that provides a safe home to children in crisis, crews cleared debris from Broward County foster homes and maternity homes. The company also tackled clean up at the Salvation Army’s Fort Lauderdale headquarters, removing fallen trees.

In the Florida Keys, where Irma caused severe damage, City Furniture teamed with the Key Largo Baptist Church for on-the ground insight into the needs. City Furniture associates helped clear the rubble and distribute truckloads of vital supplies including water, non-perishable food, gas cards and batteries to area residents each day for a week. Follow-up trips brought two more truckloads of supplies collected by associates at City Furniture’s headquarters and by the team at its Mississippi manufacturing facility.

Beyond providing helping hands and supplies, City Furniture launched a fundraising effort in support of the American Red Cross’ relief efforts. The GoFundMe campaign will match up to $100,000 in furniture donations to those who are rebuilding.

“Irma’s destruction left countless people without a place to call home – something that hits especially close to our hearts,” said City Furniture President Keith Koenig. He noted that supporting the community is an ongoing commitment for City Furniture, where its City Cares initiative encourages associates throughout the company to get involved.

“When it comes to building – or rebuilding – strong communities, everyone has a role to play,” said Koenig. “Working together, we can make things right for those impacted by Irma, and we’re glad to do our part. Helping our neighbors is ingrained in our team. We deeply appreciate how our associates put that commitment into action by stepping up to support Irma recovery efforts.”
