Las Vegas Market recently announced that submissions for the seventh annual Global Goodness Awards, which recognize furniture, home décor and gift companies for environmentally-friendly, sustainable and socially responsible business practices, will be accepted through January 5, 2018. Global Goodness Awards will be bestowed upon one company in each of the Market’s three major categories—furniture, home décor and gift—as well as one additional People’s Choice Award selected via social media, and announced at the Winter 2018 Las Vegas Market, January 28-February 1, 2018.

“Las Vegas Market is proud to recognize exhibitors whose production and business practices are making positive impacts not only on the industry, but also on communities around the world,” said Esther Ossei-Anto, Gift Brand Manager, International Market Centers. “As the leading furniture, home decor and gift destination in the western United States, Las Vegas Market is proud to present Global Goodness Awards to these corporate ‘good citizens’ who have incorporated sustainable practices and social responsibility into product manufacturing.”

The Global Goodness Awards, which debuted at the Summer 2013 Market, are open to all Las Vegas Market permanent and temporary exhibitors. Las Vegas Market exhibitors participate in the Global Goodness initiative by sharing their unique stories through text and photographs. Submissions should address the socially-responsible products offered, countries visited and people or organizations supported and include high-resolution photos to illustrate the essay. Past award recipients are not eligible to apply.

A panel of industry sustainability and social responsibility experts – Colvin English of ByHand Consulting, Susan Inglis of the Sustainable Furnishings Council and Carol MacNulty of Aid to Artisans – will review the entries and select one winner from each of the Market’s core industries: furniture, gift and home décor. A fourth People’s Choice award winner, representing any of the three categories, will be determined by popular vote on the Las Vegas Market Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/lvmarket. Award-winning essays will be posted on LasVegasMarket.com, and each will receive special at-market recognition signage.

Winners of the Winter 2017 Global Goodness Awards were: People’s Choice honoree Quilling Card, a producer of exquisite handmade greeting cards crafted by artisans in Vietnam using the centuries-old art of rolling, coiling, shaping and gluing paper; furniture honoree Anji Mountain, a floor covering manufacturer using genuinely sustainable and recycled materials that has partnered with Trees for the Future to plant trees in African communities; gift honoree, Dunitz & Company, a two-time winner of the Global Goodness Award, known for providing beautiful beaded and fused glass jewelry handcrafted by more than 100 women and men in Guatemala; and home décor honoree The Cottage Potters, which produces and designs high-quality wheel-thrown clay fired with wood.

The Global Goodness awards program supplements an ongoing partnership Las Vegas Market has with the Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) to create One Good World, a guide to sustainable furniture and home décor products to help connect legitimate suppliers and retailers in this new era of sustainability and accountability. The effort includes a sustainable products locator program showcasing relevant at-Market resources, expanded educational offerings addressing issues and opportunities connected with sustainability.
