Baker, a designer and manufacturer of fine home furnishings, fabric and wallpaper recently announced that designer Philip Gorrivan’s new and exclusive textile collection, a very special new selection of luxurious weaves, rich textures, and ravishing colors. The Philip Gorrivan Fabric Collection for Baker includes eleven precisely created and edited fabrics, representing Baker’s first guest designer textile collaboration since launching its flagship fabric showroom in New York City last year at 200 Lexington Avenue.

The new fabric collection ranges from a lustrous silk and cotton sateen cloth to crisply tailored men’s suiting adaptations, along with a lightweight silk and wood blend in a tweed effect that’s offered in thirteen updated and sophisticated colors. The new assortment is in addition to over 1,300 fabrics that form part of the company’s offering of textiles, including various colors and patterns of velvet, wool, mohair, linen, silk, chenille, embroidery, prints, metallic textures, stripes and damask.

“I believe that ‘tailoring’ and the concept of classic menswear fabrics have a very practical and handsome application for the home, so I’ve created a collection ‘evocative’ of suiting, but not a direct representation necessarily,” said Philip Gorrivan.

Gorrivan’s goal is to simplify, not over complicate, the essence of this story so that there is a defined relationship between the parts of the whole, an inspiring “intellectual” connection.

Among highlights of the collection are “Kingsland”, a fine woven mohair with a touch of silk that’s sumptuously soft and tactile.

“Malcontenta”, his printed signature pattern, uses Gorrivan’s signature Palladian tile motif as a graphic pattern on linen.

“Montfort” is a very well-appointed and precise wool plaid. This classical cloth has a perfectly tailored pattern, and reverses to a different pattern that’s surprising and delightful.

With “Palladio” he has mastered the complex art of “flocking”, a time-consuming technique that requires a specific plate created for each pattern. His signature flocked pattern is offered in five different colorways.

For “Sheridan”, a soft and supple wool jacquard, Philip dares to re-invent fashion’s current “darling” pattern, camouflage, in a stunningly sophisticated version, with a dash of humor.

Other exciting offerings are in washed linen, textural sheers, a wool/cashmere blend with a reverse pattern, and a lovely wool/damask with a pattern that appears to “float”. All are upholstery weight, with the exception of four “drapery only” fabrics. The collection is for indoor residential use (with the exception of the four “drapery only” fabrics).

In keeping with Baker’s legacy of artisan craftsmanship crafted all around the world, Gorrivan worked closely with top mills in Europe, India and Scotland to research and re-invent traditional luxury cloths. Specifically, his fabrics are crafted by leading, traditional European boutique mills (mainly Italian) with the exception of the silk sateen whose origin is India, and the sheers from Scotland. The fabrics offer designers new ways of adding distinction and character to their projects.

Within each quality, a breadth of color is showcased across five color families that artfully unfolds a layering effect (in true suiting fashion) that eloquently tells the most complete and compelling story of Philip Gorrivan.

Color stories are narrated using Aegean and Empire Blue (a medium hue with gray toward indigo), a Sand and Earth (a warmer neutral palette), Elephant and Ash Grey (a modern neutral palette). In addition, Gorrivan has selected more powerful and delicious tones, including Fig (a rich berry/ plum/ Bordeaux coloration) and Limone (a dash of citrus color).
