Durham Furniture recently announced that it will debut Escarpment at the April High Point Market. The 15-piece collection is characterized by its extremely distressed surfaces and will include pieces for the bedroom and living spaces. The group will be showcased in the company’s High Point showroom, located at G1082 in the International Home Furnishings Center.

“The collection’s name is a nod to the heavy distressing that is featured throughout the group that in some ways could resemble the landscape of an escarpment,” said Luke Simpson, president and CEO of Durham Furniture. “By far the most distressed collection in our product line, it was designed to give the pieces a look that is perfectly imperfect, a key trend that continues to grow in popularity with today’s casual lifestyles.”

Crafted of solid wormy rustic maple, the collection’s heavily distressed look is achieved through the use of various techniques including roughed edges – distressed by hand with stones – hand chiseling and nail clustering details. The result is a relaxed, worn look that mimics years of use, yet provides the benefit of newly constructed furniture.

Additional design details that give the group its casually-vintage style include highly distressed planked tops, creating the look of refinished heirloom furniture with a revived life. Hammered metal single knob pulls in a black nickel finish complete the look.

Presented in two new premium finishes, Stone Dust and Desert Sand, the collection is also available in any of Durham’s more than 50 custom finishes. Stone Dust, featured on some beds and vertical surfaces of the case pieces, is a distressed white finish with extremely worn areas that reveal the maple wood underneath complete with nail clustering details. Desert Sand is a natural-toned finish with translucent water spotting details that accentuate the depth and interest of the solid maple wood grain. It is featured on the tops of the case pieces to provide a casual two-tone effect.

The group will be shown at Market in both the Stone Dust/Desert Sand two-tone finish as well as other Durham best-selling existing finishes to demonstrate the versatility of its casual style as well as highlight Durham’s custom finishing capabilities. Stone Dust and Desert Sand will also be available on many of Durham’s existing product collections.

Bedroom pieces are anchored by a Panel Bed, which is available in a 64-inch high or a 56-inch low headboard height. Each headboard is also available in an upholstered or wood panel style. The low panel headboard features three horizontal panels, while the high version features the same horizontal panel styling, with additional vertical slat detailing at the top, which extends the height of the headboard by eight inches. The headboards can be upholstered in more than 25 fabrics, as well as customers’ own material (COM).

Bedroom case pieces feature classic traditional styling with pilaster overlays and tall tapered legs. Items include a five-drawer Tall Chest, a three-drawer Nightstand, a six-drawer Lingerie Chest, a six-drawer Dressing Chest a three-drawer Bachelor Chest, and a nine-drawer Triple Dresser. A single-drawer Open Nightstand features electrical outlets and USB ports for charging electronic devices. Most pieces include soft-close drawer guides and cedar-lined lower drawers.

Occasional pieces include a multi-functional Upholstered Bench with X-style detailing on the sides of the base. The versatile piece can be bunched in a pair for use as an end of bed bench or cocktail table for a sectional. The scale also lends itself for single use with a sofa or chair as a side table or ottoman. Similar in style to the bench is a Cocktail Table with a wood top. A Side Table with round top and a unique triangular base formed with three triangular, tapered legs and a versatile Console Table complete the collection. The Console Table features two drawers, four open lower shelves and X-style detailing on the ends. At 70.5 inches wide, its scale accommodates a flat screen TV, use as a sofa table, or as a display or serving piece.
