Durham Furniture Extends Licensing Agreement With George Washington’s Mount Vernon

Furniture World News Desk on 2/6/2017

Building on a prosperous 12-year relationship, Durham Furniture announced that it has renewed its licensing agreement with George Washington’s Mount Vernon, the iconic American landmark of George and Martha Washington’s famous estate in Fairfax County, Virginia. The four-year extension will include a new collaboratively-designed group, which is set to be unveiled in 2018.

A significant partnership for both companies, the best-selling Mount Vernon licensed groups include three bedroom and occasional groups – Architect, Distillery and Rustic Civility. A portion of the sales of each group is returned to the estate to support the ongoing preservation and educational efforts of the historic site.

“The success of the Mount Vernon licensed groups stems from the authentic styling each collection offers,” said Luke Simpson, president and CEO of Durham Furniture. “The more traditionally-styled Rustic Civility and Architect Collections draw design inspiration from the home itself, while the Distillery Collection provides an industrial look inspired by the original whiskey-making operation on the estate. There’s something for everyone.”

As it strives to preserve, restore and manage the estate of George Washington to the highest standards, Mount Vernon’s mission is to educate visitors about his life and legacy. The museum is home to countless artifacts including furniture, ceramics and textiles that were owned by George and Martha Washington and their family.

“It is a pleasure to announce the renewal of our collaboration with Durham Furniture,” said Beverly Addington, director of product licensing for George Washington’s Mount Vernon. “Income produced from the sales of George Washington’s Mount Vernon licensed groups has funded many much-needed preservation projects for which we are very grateful.”
