Reverie To Open Central Production Facility In The Greater Buffalo, N.Y., Area

Furniture World News Desk on 2/20/2017

As part of a strategic move to increase its domestic manufacturing, sleep systems manufacturer Reverie recently announced that it will open an Innovation Center in the Greater Buffalo, N.Y., area that will serve as its central production facility for its adjustable power bases.

The Innovation Center gives the company a move into the domestic manufacturing arena with its smaller footprint designed with state-of-art operations. The new location will replace the company’s current Eden, N.Y., facility, which opened in 2013. The Innovation Center will open May 1.

The new facility will focus on creating customized products for Reverie customers. An Innovation Lab, a dedicated space where Reverie manufacturing engineers will be committed to continually improving production efficiencies and processes, will be a key component of the new facility.

Reverie will hire 35 new employees for the Innovation Center. The company is providing job assistance and training for the 45 Eden, N.Y., employees impacted by the move.

Rawls-Meehan said the company has been passionate about developing an increased U.S. manufacturing model for some time.

“We are committed to making, designing and distributing our products here in the U.S.,” Rawls-Meehan said. “Our new U.S. Innovation Center will feature a collaborative setting for our creative design and engineering teams to develop customized products for our customers through lean manufacturing and efficient production teams. By combining our expertise with the supply chain partners we’ve developed in the greater Buffalo, N.Y., area, we are creating a strong, efficient domestic production model.

“The truth is, we’ve had to work very hard to build up a supply chain here,” he said. “While building product in the U.S. is very viable, unfortunately the supply chain we need is not as developed. But we are beginning to make significant progress, and having an Innovation Center like this will help us and other companies with U.S. manufacturing in mind realize it faster.”

Reverie has built up a Western New York-based steel supplier for materials used in its power adjustable bases and continues its search for additional U.S. suppliers for other components used in building its products.

Rawls-Meehan said Reverie’s move to develop a sustainable domestic manufacturing approach could provide a model for other industries that are striving to find a way to effectively manufacture in the U.S. As more companies make the decision to develop manufacturing capabilities domestically like Reverie, U.S. manufacturing becomes more and more viable because the supply chain will be developed and supported through additional domestic manufacturing demand.

Through its Innovation Center, the company will be able service its wholesale customers in an expanded capacity by offering customized high-end products.
