MARC SCHEWEL RECEIVES WILLIS AWARD

Marc Schewel, chief executive officer of Schewel Furniture Company, was recently awarded the Willis Award of Merit at the 85th annual convention of the Southern Home Furnishings Association (SHFA). Established in 1954 by the family of John Willis Jr. of Willis Wayside Furniture in Norfolk, Va., the award is presented annually to the outstanding home furnishings retailer in the SHFA's six-state region who has been most outstanding in community activities, in the conduct of his business, in service to his God, and in service to his industry. Marc Schewel has been active in the SHFA for more than 20 years, serving in almost every capacity on its executive committee. His outstanding fundraising efforts on behalf of the organization and its membership have helped expand benefits and services to retailers in the six-state southern region. Schewel Furniture Company, operated and owned by the fourth generation of its founder, Elias Schewel, is one of the largest retail furniture chains in the Southeast with 45 stores throughout Virginia, North Carolina and West Virginian and approximately 700 employees.
