Customatic Adjustable Bedz recently announced that it has hired Chris Henning as executive vice president of sales and marketing. Henning, best known for holding senior executive positions with some of the most popular consumer mattress brands in the business, brings more than 30 years of home furnishings experience to the newly created position. In his new role, he will focus on opening new sleep and furniture doors nationwide, further developing key account relationships and play a role in the company’s branding and marketing initiatives.

“From its inception, Customatic was built on the relationships that Phil McCarty and I have with people in the industry. Chris is one of those people – he’s been our customer and friend for years,” said Phil Sherman, president of Customatic Adjustable Bedz. “His industry experiences range from working with established corporate brands to elevating new sleep technologies into household names.”
Henning’s career is deeply seeded in the sleep products industry. He began at Simmons, working his way up from key accounts manager to vice president of sales when he left a decade later.

Fifteen years later, Henning was part of a team that put memory foam mattresses on the map and in bedrooms across the U.S. As vice president and then president of Tempur-Pedic Retail. He continued to bolster sales in North America by spearheading joint ventures with retailers in Mexico and Canada until 2008.

Following that, he served as president of North America sales for Kingsdown, Inc. and implemented a U.S. sales plan and played an integral part of the development and launch of bedMATCH, a diagnostic body mapping system. Two years later, he joined King Koil as a senior vice president of strategic planning and business development where he led corporate sales teams and implemented corporate strategies for sales, marketing and merchandising.

As president and CEO of Dormeo Octaspring, Henning was responsible for launching and growing the brand’s retail channel in North America and working with leading dealers to provide product and marketing support and service. Most recently, Henning was president and COO of Wesley Allen, a recognized style leader and manufacturer of iron furniture.

“This is a very exciting time for us. Part of Customatic’s strategic corporate growth plan is to continue to introduce our vast product line and innovations into the marketplace and explore new sales channels. To accomplish this goal, we are investing in an ‘all-star’ sales team to get the job done,” said Sherman.
