Executives and warehouse workers from W.S. Badcock Corporation gathered on January 16th with community leaders to celebrate the grand opening and ribbon cutting for the recent expansion of the Badcock Home Furniture &more distribution center in Mebane, North Carolina. The center which receives product from manufacturers and ships to 88 stores in surrounding markets has been a fixture in the Mebane community since its initial opening in 2005 and currently employs nearly 80 members of the local area.

The expansion has grown the physical footprint of the center from 200,000 square feet to an impressive 372,000 square feet and will immediately create at least ten new job opportunities for the community at large with more in the future. To express appreciation and support for the economic impact to the local area, Senator Rick Gunn, Mayor Glendel Stephenson and the Chair of the Alamance County Board, Amy Scott Galey addressed the crowd during the grand opening ceremony. Other members of the Alamance Chamber of Commerce and more community leaders were in attendance to show their support.

In a touching part of the celebration, former co-workers, friends, and family members listened as Shipping Supervisor, John Davis shared stories and memories about a former employee of the warehouse, Joshua Lamm who was tragically killed in a car accident in 2017. Lamm’s impact on his colleagues and the company inspired the expansion project to be dedicated to his remembrance. Lamm’s visage was memorialized on a plaque adorning a main wall in the expansion to carry on his memory. His mother, Annie “Susie” Carden Lamm, sister Kelly Smith and her husband John, and his grandfather Joshia Lamm were in attendance to receive the dedication in honor of their loved one.

The Southeastern furniture retailer has experienced tremendous growth in recent years and this expansion was a necessary and exciting component of sustaining current operations and preparing for continued development in the future. W.S. Badcock Corporation’s President and CEO, Rob Burnette commented on the expansion saying, “This expansion is a key part of our need for more space to support more stores and customers now and into the coming years. This grand opening marks a milestone in our overall plans for a robust and prosperous future for our company and the communities we serve. It’s an incredibly thrilling time for us and we are honored to be a vital part of the Mebane community.”
