Skram, a North Carolina-based furniture, lighting, and accessories studio specializing in heirloom quality modern design, recently premiered a newly updated showroom to the company’s discerning clients.

Adorned with a number of Skram’s Spring 2018 launches and accented with both brand staples and custom furniture and lighting pieces, the New York Design Center showroom now emulates a variety of vignettes from the hotel bar to the modern residential bedroom, re-conceptualized for design-driven residential and contract environments.

“The releases for Spring 2018 remind me why I love this work,” says Skram founder and creative director Jacob Marks. “I’ve spent the past months refining a group of designs that are varied in materiality, function, and scale, and that explore exciting new boundaries. Despite the variety, this new work is nicely unified by a common aesthetic and by our aim of building beautiful and well-made objects for a lifetime of use. To my mind, these are some of the most compelling designs that we’ve developed in recent years and we are excited to bring them to our NYDC clients.”

Sitting vignettes flank the showroom entrance featuring the just-launched, steam-bent Wyandotte Guest Chair. The current Piedmont collection is showcased in the dining room setting, featuring a tremendous pedestal table and seating, while the grand 16-Arm Arak Chandelier sheds light on the room. The Lineground collection, which recently expanded with the Spring introduction of the versatile and customizable L41 Lineground Media System and the sleek platform style Lineground Bed, is featured prominently in two distinctive bedroom and entertaining niches.

Skram’s new Spring 2018 releases are joined by current collections Altai, Lineground, Drop Series, Gil, Piedmont, and Wishbone, and can be experienced in person at the New York Design Center, Suite 427, by appointment, Monday - Saturday. Included below are further details on the Spring 2018 introductions.

Wyandotte Guest Chair
Skram’s Wyandotte Guest Chair becomes an instantly recognizable classic of contemporary seating design with its coalescence of bold lines, exquisite workmanship, and ergonomic tuning. Traditional in construction but innovative in form. The Wyandotte is a master’s class in timber joinery, but equally notable for a distinctive, distilled grace that is hard to overstate. Features include a steam-bent timber frame in Ash or Walnut with joinery by mortise-and-tenon, pinned half-lap, and triple spline. In addition to the timber finish options, a truly tailored look is attainable via the metal accents - offered in a variety of materials and finishes – and graded-in Wallsdorf leathers or COM/COL upholstery offerings. The new chair is contract-grade and is well-suited for residential, commercial, and hospitality environments. Like all Skram products, the Wyandotte is bench-made to exacting tolerances at Skram’s solar-powered North Carolina facility.

L41 Lineground Media System
The new L41 Lineground Media System joins the family of Lineground Servers and Lineground Lowdown Media Units in that it is a large, entirely customizable casegood and well-suited for a wide array of settings from the living room to the boardroom. Like many Skram products, L41 can be customized in material, scale, and configuration. In terms of configurations, there is a vast array of power/data/wire management and interior outfitting options to tailor the product for how it will be used.

Arak Lighting Expansion
The Arak lighting collection is an ongoing collaborative project between Skram lead designer Jacob Marks and porcelain artist Mimi Logothetis, whose unconventional hand-forming techniques along with her application of distinctive graphics to the porcelain surfaces are a primary focus. The new spring 2018 additions include two products, a 3-arm sconce and a large scale, fully customizable 16-arm chandelier. Like the existing pieces, the new products feature a main hub in bronze or aluminum with blackened aluminum arms and hand-formed porcelain diffusers. Shades are available in Textured, Patches, Naked, and Graphic (shown below). All utilize cutting-edge, high-efficiency L.E.D. illumination while maintaining outstanding quality and output. All new and existing Arak products rate at 90+ CRI, 2700k and are UL listed.

Lineground Bed
The new sleek platform-style Lineground Bed is a bold expression of Skram Furniture’s ethic of workmanship and lead designer Jacob Marks’ aesthetic, which emphasizes the use of natural materials to deliver distinctive, unified and resonant designs. The new bed coordinates with the nightstand and bureau options and the other accompaniments of the Lineground collection. It features the same wide range of standard and custom material options as the broader collection. Like all Lineground products, the new Lineground bed features a 100% solid timber construction, a Greenguard-certified commercial grade low-sheen finish, and the option to customize in material, size, or configuration for a bespoke realization.
