City Furniture and its employees are putting their hearts into a fund- and awareness-raising campaign for the American Heart Association’s Broward Heart Walk this month, with the company making a $25,000 match for donations by the City Furniture team, customers and friends. It’s a cause that hits home for the retailer, whose own founder suffered from heart disease and died at a young age.

With the Broward Heart Walk scheduled for March 17 at Nova Southeastern University in Davie, City Furniture is promoting the event throughout its 29-store network and on social media to encourage the wider community to get involved.

The City Furniture team is making Broward Heart Walk a key 2019 highlight of the company’s 5% Giving Pledge, through which it donates a minimum of five percent of annual profits to a host of charities in South and Central Florida.

“Like so many in South Florida, my family knows how high the stakes are with heart health,” said City Furniture President Andrew Koenig, who will head the team of more than 100 company associates, their family members and friends planning to participate in the Heart Walk. “My Uncle Kevin, City Furniture’s founder, died from heart disease and other related ailments. Watching the incredible impact the American Heart Association has made on the lives of so many has inspired us to increase our own annual company-wide engagement in this cause.”

To keep heart health top-of-mind, sales associates at all City Furniture showrooms statewide and at all Ashley HomeStore locations in South Florida are wearing red wristbands with the American Heart Association logo, or heart-shaped pins with the name of someone they are fundraising in honor of this month. Every department at City Furniture’s 900,000-square-foot headquarters offices and distribution center in Tamarac is in full swing with fun Heart Walk fundraising promotions.

Shoppers can donate to the American Heart Association at any of the 17 City Furniture stores in Southeast, Southwest and Central Florida, as well as at the 12 Ashley HomeStore showrooms City Furniture owns and operates as that brand’s exclusive South Florida licensee. Information on the retailer’s Heart Walk initiative is also at the City Furniture CityCares website.

Through its 5% Giving Pledge, City Furniture focuses on empowering charities to spur positive change in five main areas: Home, Health, Service, Diversity and Education. A national Top 100 Furniture Retailer, City Furniture is strategically growing its business on every front, while expanding its commitment to the all the communities it serves.
