Lectra Partners With CCC&TI to Launch the Furniture Factory Lab

Furniture World News Desk on 5/6/2019

Lectra recently announced the launch of the Furniture Factory Lab at Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute in Hudson, NC. The Furniture Lab is an innovative workforce program that will prepare CCC&TI students for the next generation of furniture manufacturing by offering training in state-of-the-art technology and processes in cutting room automation, sewing and upholstery.

The partnership, supported by founding partners Bernhardt Furniture Company, Fairfield Chair and McCreary Modern, was announced today at a special ribbon-cutting event on the CCC&TI campus and included a demonstration of Lectra’s advanced cutting technology and keynote addresses from Dr. Mark Poarch, President of CCC&TI, and Edouard Macquin, President of Lectra Americas.

“We are excited about what this partnership and this Furniture Factory Lab will mean for our students and for the surrounding community,” said Dr. Poarch. “Lectra is committed to providing our students with state-of-the-art capabilities that will allow CCC&TI to educate and prepare them for meaningful jobs today and for the future.”

Lectra has provided CCC&TI with a Vector IX with Mosaic, one of the most advanced systems for creating perfectly matched patterned furniture pieces. This high-performing cutting solution offers the flexibility to service a variety of commercial and residential furniture manufacturing needs, including mass production and custom order, and provides students with extensive industry knowledge.

“With the rapid growth of smart, agile production and manufacturing, an educated and technologically trained workforce is essential for the success of furniture brands,” said Mr. Macquin. “We are honored that CCC&TI is using our technology to prepare students for the future of American furniture manufacturing.”
The new technology and lab will create a simulated factory environment with the types of workspaces and equipment found in furniture manufacturing, which will benefit both students and employers. The recent upgrades are also expected to help CCC&TI with student recruitment, as the new lab space and high-tech equipment are an impressive sight for visitors to the facility. Increased recruitment to the program will in turn lead to more highly trained workers for the region’s furniture industry.
