Malouf Becomes a Benefit Corporation

Furniture World News Desk on 9/12/2019

Utah-based bedding and furniture company Malouf is officially a benefit corporation. This recent milestone is part of the company’s wider initiative to represent a higher standard of social and environmental responsibility.

“Sustainability is important to us, and giving back to the community is a key part of our culture,” said Malouf CEO Sam Malouf. “We care about our customers, we care about the environment, and we care about our community. When considering these values, becoming a benefit corporation was a natural next step for our company—one that will promote substantial growth moving forward.”

Malouf has been committed to sustainability since the beginning, and they show this dedication through its daily operations. For example, its headquarters in Logan, Utah are powered by rooftop solar panels and utilize natural light, with a zero-waste footprint. And its product lineup includes natural and sustainable options like Bamboo Charcoal, TENCEL™ and natural latex foams.

Additionally, the company helps individuals in need through the Malouf Foundation and currently leads the bedding industry in the fight against child sexual exploitation. Right now, a significant portion of every Malouf purchase goes to support the Foundation’s efforts. Plus, employees can donate their skills and time by completing volunteer hours through the company’s charitable-time-off program.

“At Malouf, we have an overarching goal to help people, and we want to show our partners that we focus on more than just profits and the bottom line,” said Jeff Steed, Malouf chief legal officer and Utah’s foremost expert on nonprofit law and benefit corporations. “We want to keep giving back to the community, and that includes all global stakeholders.”

Malouf continually seeks to improve its company, service and assets to give customers a better experience. They invite like-minded businesses to join the B-Corp movement and look for opportunities to make a greater impact on society and the environment.
