At the first-ever Future of Home conference, September 9–10 in New York City, Business of Home partnered with leaders to explore the convergence of interior design and technology in the home industry. The event focused on innovative, forward-thinking design and featured discussions with prominent speakers like Kate Freebairn, Director of UX, Google Nest and Jennifer Fleiss, CEO and Co-founder, Jetblack. Attendees were able to explore the Helpful Home powered by Google Nest and designed by Drake/Anderson, an interactive interior showcasing how technology and design can blend to create a beautiful space that also keeps the people inside it more comfortable, safe, informed, and in control.

Just in time for New York Fashion Week, interior designers Jamie Drake and Caleb Anderson created a modern residence in the Helpful Home, furnished with a playful and polished mix of contemporary furnishings and decorative objects, including luxury fashion house Libertine’s whimsical textiles and wallcoverings for Schumacher—which debuted September 11th on the runway. Within the home, Google Assistant will enable a home that works together easily with Nest thermostats, speakers and displays, Hunter Douglas voice activated window treatments and connected lighting. Future of Home attendees are invited to step inside the home within the 18,000 square-foot space in Chelsea’s gallery district, and experience the magic of a chic, connected home - a sensory delight of bold design imagined for the homeowner of today and tomorrow.

“Well designed interiors have always been beautiful, functional, and livable, but in the future they will also be engaging, interactive and perceptive,” says Jamie Drake and Caleb Anderson, Co-founders of the design firm Drake/Anderson. “Technologies that at one time seemed to belong in a sci-fi movie are available to all—connecting, integrating and making life more convenient.

Companies creating this technology are designing products that integrate easily and seamlessly. The aesthetics of home technology have come a long way and can blend beautifully in today’s modern home. As designers we have always strived to be at the forefront of great design and for Drake/Anderson that means consistently focusing on the future.”

“Johnson Hartig of Libertine is a true authentic, an absolute creative trailblazer,” says Dara Caponigro, Creative Director of Schumacher. “He has incredible knowledge of the history of decoration, great taste and an irreverent joyfulness that is spellbinding. Add to that, incredible attention to detail and an unparalleled emphasis on quality and you have a home collection that stands out. We couldn’t be happier to have the Libertine collection for Schumacher put in the capable and equally creative hands of Drake/Anderson for the inaugural Future of Home conference. We at Schumacher have always understood the need to be forward thinkers and we run our business with all of the tools and leadership of a technology company, so we are thrilled to join this visionary team of Drake/Anderson, Google Nest and Business of Home on this exciting activation!”

“Natural light is one of the most powerful forces for contributing to the ambiance and comfort of a home. While Hunter Douglas window treatments are designed to maximize the beauty of natural light, smart home consumers have discovered that advanced, automated window treatments provide optimal control over light, privacy, and energy efficiency throughout the day,” says Scott Stephenson, Director of Product Management, Motorization for Hunter Douglas. “Hunter Douglas PowerView® Motorization allows users to control most Hunter Douglas window treatments with Google Assistant, which has become one of our most requested operating systems in recent years.”
