Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico Hosts Silent Auction with Help from CORT

Furniture World News Desk on 9/17/2019

According to the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, there are 2,551 homeless individuals in New Mexico on any given night. In order to combat this issue, the Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico (SHC) hosted its inaugural Welcome Home Fundraiser and Donor Appreciation Luncheon, featuring a silent auction with items donated from CORT.

“We are proud to announce the first annual luncheon raised over $30,000,” said Laurie Frappier, director of development at SHC. “All of this would not be possible without generous donors and sponsors like CORT.”

CORT donated 18 pieces of furniture to be auctioned, including a living room, a bedroom and dining room set, along with new kitchen, bath and bedroom items from CORT Housewares.

“We are extremely honored to share in this mission with the Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico and donate furniture for such a worthy cause,” said Todd Shell, national director of Supportive Housing at CORT. “The hard work that SHC does every day to help the community and provide people a better place to live is extraordinary.”

Each piece of furniture CORT provided was sold during the auction; however, keeping with the theme of giving back, the winners donated the furniture back to SHCNM to be used for the newly housed tenants.

After the event, CORT delivered the furniture to Downtown @700-2nd for the SHC tenants in downtown Albuquerque.

“At CORT, we believe that everyone deserves a place that is permanent, safe and secure,” says Shell.

The Welcome Home Luncheon was held at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Along with CORT, notable sponsors included Hinkle & Landers, P.C. (title sponsor), Phyllis Taylor, Wells Fargo, Design Concepts & Solutions, UnitedHealthcare and Floorscapes. The luncheon was a great opportunity to educate and bring awareness to homelessness and SCH homelessness initiatives.
