Ashley Homestore's Hope to Dream Program Donates 100 Beds to Children in New Port Richey

On Friday, November 15th, Ashley HomeStore’s Hope to Dream program donated 100 beds to local children in need from New Port Richey. Recipients were selected from Gulf Middle School, Richey Elementary School and Harry Schwettman Education Center. The non-profit organization hosted a celebration with games, snacks and a surprise bed reveal for the recipients at Gulf Middle School. The New Port Richey Fire Department also participated in the event, teaching the children and their families about fire safety. Each of the children left the event with a brand-new bed, including: a twin mattress, bed frame, sheets, pillow, and a comforter.
After forming a friendship with the New Port Richey Fire Department during a prior mattress donation, the Ashley HomeStore team learned of the growing poverty rate in the region and were determined to assist these children and their families. In Central Florida alone, over 4,000 children have received beds from the Hope to Dream program.
“The gift of these beds to our students can make all the difference in their lives. Everyone needs and deserves a bed to call their own. Adequate sleep is imperative to proper cognitive functioning. Now that these students have their own bed to sleep in, we feel they will be better able to succeed in school,” said Amy Riddle, Principal, Gulf Middle School. “Thank you, Ashley Homestore, for your generous donation to our students, it truly does take a village.”
“Since 2010, this program has proudly provided over 90,000 children with the gift of sleep," says Ruthie Bautista, Hope To Dream Ambassador. " Hope to Dream will be celebrating its 9th anniversary in December and we look forward to continuing to work with communities to reach our common goal, to ensure that every child has a bed to call their own."
