Homemakers Furniture to Begin One of Iowa’s Largest Solar Panel Installations

Furniture World News Desk on 9/1/2021

Homemakers Furniture announced that ithas begun a large solar panel installation project. The project, which will be completed by 1 Source Solar from Ankeny, IA, will be one of the largest private solar panel arrays in Iowa.

“When we started talking about this idea, we really saw how much it made sense for us,” Homemakers Assistant Vice President, Jason Merschman said. “Not only does it make sense in terms of the power and cost savings, but it reinforces our commitment to building a business rooted in sustainability.”

The solar panels will cover over 250,000 square feet of space. Panels will be installed on both the upper and lower level of Homemakers’ 215,000 square foot showroom roof, as well as part of their warehouse roof.

The installation will consist of 2,988 bi-facial panels, which produce power from both the front and back sides. The light reflecting off Homemakers’ white roof will maximize the panels’ power potential. These Tier 1-rated panels have also been engineered and tested to withstand harsh weather, including heavy wind, rain, and hail.

The finished project, which is expected to take approximately three months to complete, will produce 1.33 megawatts of energy, converting over one-third of Homemakers’ annual power needs to green solar energy.

“We couldn’t be more excited to get this project underway,” said Merschman. “We’re proud to be a leader in creating a more sustainable future for Iowa’s environment.”
