City of Hope announced that on April 6, the leading Cancer research and treatment center will officially dedicate the Michael Amini Transfusion Medicine Center, a new 60,000 square-foot, three-story facility that houses City of Hope’s blood processing programs and accommodates the institution’s growing number of blood donors and patients. Made possible by a generous $6 million gift from Michael Amini, chairman and chief executive officer of Amini Innovation Corporation (AICO), the Amini Center expands City of Hope’s vital blood collection, analysis, processing and transfusion programs and supports patients during cancer treatment. The facility is City of Hope’s first green-certified building. EwingCole’s architects and engineers integrated a sustainable design with the use of natural materials, daylight and generous views of the Angeles National Forest throughout the center. Michael Amini, a longtime supporter of City of Hope, is an active member of City of Hope’s National Home Furnishings Industry Council. In 2004, he received the West Coast Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his personal, professional and philanthropic achievements. Amini has spent a significant amount of his time at City of Hope visiting friends undergoing cancer treatments. During his time there, he was deeply touched and inspired by the lifesaving research and the level of comprehensive care his friends received. City of Hope is a leading research and treatment center for cancer, diabetes and other life-threatening diseases. Designated as a Comprehensive Cancer Center, the highest honor bestowed by the National Cancer Institute, and a founding member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, City of Hope's research and treatment protocols advance care throughout the nation. City of Hope is located in Duarte, Calif., just northeast of Los Angeles, and is ranked as one of “America’s Best Hospitals” in cancer and urology by U.S.News & World Report. Founded in 1913, City of Hope is a pioneer in the fields of bone marrow transplantation and genetics. For more information, visit www.cityofhope.org .
