Braden’s Fine Furniture and Interiors, one of Knoxville’s oldest family owned home furnishing stores, is announcing that it has agreed to sell the downtown building and is closing the 100,000 Square foot Western Avenue location. Gary Braden, President of Braden’s Fine Furniture and Interiors and Braden’s Turkey Creek, confirms that the Western Avenue store closed April 17 and will re-open to the public for a massive $8 million store closing sale on April 24th following a 3 day Private Sale to it’s existing customers. Lynch Sales Company out of Grand Rapids Michigan will be conducting the 8 million dollar liquidation sale. Braden said that the majority of the existing downtown staff would relocate to the Turkey Creek location after the sale. Mr. Braden, also reflected on how the current and past I-40 closures and constant roadwork around the downtown store definitely aided in his decision to sell the Western Avenue building and close the iconic Braden’s location. Braden’s Western Avenue store has been a fixture in the downtown area for more than 53 years since its founder McKinley Braden opened the first store under the name Wholesale Furniture Dealers Supply, Inc in 1956. Braden began as a distributor to dealers and interior designers in a 5 state area. In 1973, Braden’s expanded to its present 100,000 square foot Western Avenue location and became Braden’s Wholesale Furniture. Due to the high public demand, Braden’s evolved to sell furniture directly to the consumer and renamed the store to the now famous Braden’s Fine Furniture and Interiors on Western Avenue. “For several years our customers have been moving further out from our Downtown location. This prompted us to open the Turkey Creek store which has been a great success.” Says Gary Braden. Gary adds, “After the sale, we plan to combine more elements and styles of the downtown store into Turkey Creek’s already exceptional selection.” The Western Avenue building has been sold to a local businessman who plans to reopen the location as a warehouse.
