“Leading manufacturers in the bedding industry are recognizing the importance of creating a green standard and have committed to participating in the upcoming Specialty Sleep Association (SSA) Green Initiative,” said Dale Read, president, SSA and publisher, BEDROOM magazine. “We are thrilled to team up with such top industry pros as Simmons, Serta, Sealy and TempurPedic, among many others, as we move forward with this initiative.” To be held on May 8 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point, Bonita Springs, Fla, the SSA Green Initiative is a process designed to identify, define and standardize how mattress manufacturers and retailers label “green” and natural sleep products. The ultimate goal will be to create a certification program based on existing, accepted standards and to define terms such as "green,” “natural,” “all-natural” and “organic." Registration for the conference can be found at: http://www.sleepinformation.org/contactnew/GREEN.html. “The SSA is proud that Simmons, Serta, and Sealy have now joined our organization as we step forward and lead our industry and our customers into an eco-friendly future,” said Read. “We need to operate from a common set of terms and definitions so our customers can make knowledgeable comparisons and buying decisions about ‘green’ bedding products.” Founded in 1995, the Specialty Sleep Association (SSA) is a national not-for-profit organization created to facilitate the growth and positive awareness of the specialty sleep category. Its members develop and/or sell specialty sleep products, including air, flotation, latex, foam and adjustable sleep surfaces, and related merchandise. SSA membership is comprised of more than 100 manufacturers and retailers ranging from small, family-owned businesses to large corporations.
