High Point Market exhibitors are lending their support to The Common Thread for the Cure foundation by making The Common Thread for the Cure’s “Friendship Card sets” available in their showrooms during the High Point Market held October 17-22, 2009. At these locations, market attendees that make a minimum $28 donation to The Common Thread for the Cure will receive a “Friendship Card set”. Each set contains: 5 Friendship cards with envelopes and 5 monthly breast self-exam stickers. The primary goal of this special fundraiser is to raise awareness and help unite the furnishings industry in the battle against breast cancer. All proceeds benefit The Common Thread for the Cure. The Common Thread for the Cure, a non-profit foundation, was established in 2000 to unite individuals from all aspects of the furnishings industry – textiles, wall covering, carpet, manufacturers, designers, customer service, production, personnel, representatives, dealers – in the battle against breast cancer. The Common Thread for the Cure provides Helping Hand Grants to assist individuals affiliated with the furnishings industry who are battling this disease. The purpose of a Helping Hand Grant is to aid the recipient and their family in areas where insurance does not apply. It can be used to meet financial obligations such as mortgages or tuition, household needs, transportation to doctor’s appointments etc. All requests for and recipients of Helping Hand Grants are kept confidential.
In 2008 The Common Thread for the Cure was able to assist breast cancer survivors and their families with Helping Hand Grants. These women were from North Carolina, Virginia, Florida, Indiana and Michigan. While each grant recipient’s story was different and each need unique to the individual, the Helping Hand Grant helped make a difference in each of their lives. The Common Thread for the Curefoundation is grateful for the financial support we receive from our year round sponsors, donations andfundraising events. Our wish forthe future is that increased awareness and support will one day make a larger number of Helping Hand Grants possible.
