Ergomotion Adjustable Beds Names Ermalovich Senior Product Designer

Adjustable bed innovator Ergomotion recently named Joseph P. Ermalovich, a design veteran of the defense, automobile, toy, and fashion industries, as Senior Product Designer, Ergomotion President Kelly Clenet announced. This is a new position at the company. 


Mr. Ermalovich will be responsible for research and development, new product design and implementation, installing a new research and development department within the company, brand extensions, and adding comfort options to the company’s product mix. He will report to CEO Alain Clenet and President Kelly Clenet. 


Mr. Ermalovich has a diverse background that includes working with highly complex technologies. He was most recently Lead Designer for Shaped Armor, a Southern California-based Department of Defense subcontractor.  There he worked on antiballistic designs, special encapsulation methodologies, and was in charge of concept design, feasibility studies, final development and planning. While there he worked with a wide range of law enforcement and military personnel. 


Working with Kelly Space and Technology, another California-based DOD subcontractor, he led the development team for antiballistic vests and vehicles for the Defense Department, building 3-D and physical models of these products. He holds several design patents in antiballistic materiel design. 


Previously, he worked with two companies as product design consultant to develop CO2 high-powered lasers, and the creation of delivery systems for cosmetic lasers. He earlier worked with Ah Ha of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, as a Toy Designer.  He has logo and brochure design experience, as well as illustration, hand ideation, digital rendering, mold making, 3-D modeling, physical model making with foam, steel, plastic, paint, glass blowing, slip casting, and bent plywood experience. In 2004, he designed and produced renderings and concept sketches for a rescue boat.  While with Johnson Controls, he was awarded for automobile interior ingress and egress designs. Earlier, at Trin ku Design he handled model making and precision paint masking work for Pratt & Whitney (Hartford, CT). 


He is a graduate of the College for Creative Studies (BFA Industrial Design), has competed in many sponsored studio and design competitions for product design. He honed his skills actively in the crafts department in bent-plywood wood furniture design, steel sculpture, ceramic slip casting, and glass blowing. 

He is a graduate of Kansas City Art Institutes program (2002) where he was awarded the Steel  Sculpture and Life Drawing Scholarship. He studied at the Art Center for Design in 2002 while apprenticing for Product Design on Scholarship.. He was part of a six months Masters Level programs at Academia Italiana,  Florence, Italy, studying Fashion Design, Product design and Sculpture design in the medium of alabaster. He was awarded in the Lineapelle design competition for leather shoes displayed in Milan Italy. 

He is a graduate of the College for Creative Studies (BFA Industrial Design), and won numerous awards and academic scholarships.

Mr. Ermalovich recently moved to Santa Barbara.
