Furniture Buying Index Up Holds Steady At 72

Furniture World News on

America’s Research Group announced that the Furniture Buying Index held steady this month at a reading of 72.

Britt Beemer, Chairman of America’s Research Group, said, “Although I would have liked to see another increase in the Index, a steady hold at 72 is not bad.”  “This is thirteen points higher than the December 2009 level of 59 and is tied with June and November for the highest 2010 Index.”

“Consumers are still concerned with bills and are hesitant to spend money at this time, so it is important the Index held steady,” he concluded.

The Furniture Buying Index is compiled each month by America=s Research Group from interviews with 5,000-8,000 consumers across the country. In a typical month, 80 percent of the consumers interviewed can name a specific furniture item they intend to buy.  The Index's mark signifies what percent of the benchmark 80% actually have a particular item in mind.
