Wolf Furniture Invests In Energy Efficient LED Lighting

Furniture World News on

In a continuing effort to be an environmentally conscious company, WOLF FURNITURE announced that it has begun a conversion to more efficient and environmentally friendly lighting in all their showrooms. Incandescent 75 watt and 90 watt track lighting fixtures will be replaced with much “greener” 12 watt LED lights in five of Wolf’s eleven locations. Energy savings of these 5 stores combined will be 271.92 KW, totaling over 1,142,051 kilowatt-hours per year. That is enough energy to power 105 average homes for a year! CO2 emissions will be reduced by 856.54 tons per year. The company plans to have all locations converted by the end of 2011.  The new lamps will be supplied by the Altoona, PA based HITE COMPANY, another family business.

Most of Wolf’s retail showrooms are over 40,000 square feet and have thousands of specialized lighting fixtures. This is a large investment for the company, but according to President, Doug Wolf, “It’s our obligation to be environmentally responsible. Over time our investment will pay off with a substantial difference in both energy usage and expense.” Wolf Furniture uses OnDEMAND; a Western PA based energy solutions company, to consult on energy matters for their stores.

Wolf’s newer showrooms have carbon dioxide sensors that adjust their heating and cooling use based on the number of occupants in the building. Other recent improvements include efficient diesel engines used in their delivery vehicles, and recycling packing waste and other material in their warehouse. “Making these small changes will save money and help improve the environment for our children and grandchildren”, said Wolf.

Wolf Furniture was founded in Altoona in 1902. Home offices are in Bellwood, PA, with eleven store locations: Altoona, Chambersburg, Hanover, Harrisburg, Johnstown, Lancaster, Mechanicsburg, State College, and York, PA, Hagerstown and Frederick, MD. There is also a Wolf Furniture Clearance Outlet store located in Altoona.
