Thomasville Furniture introduces two new youth collections this fall, each combining stylish design with functionality to meet children’s changing needs throughout their growing years. The collections, a boys’ group named “Stony Brook” and a girls’ group, “Emilia,” incorporate technology-friendly study and entertainment units and comfortable, relaxed bed and storage pieces, all offering maximized versatility and Thomasville’s signature quality craftsmanship. “In Stony Brook and Emilia, Thomasville has created children’s bedroom furniture that is not only attractive, highly functional and equipped to accommodate the technology savvy youth but also has the superb quality that will endure as the child grows into his or her teens and beyond,” said Chris Pfaff, President and Chief Executive Officer, Thomasville. “The transitional furniture design makes pieces within these collections suitable for parents to use in second bedrooms once their children have grown and gone off to college.” Stony Brook: Taking its inspiration from rustic Shaker-style furniture, Stony Brook is distinguished by a warm, natural look with sturdy oak solids and veneers in an Autumn Oak finish, charming metal elements and details rarely seen in children’s furniture such as leather-wrapped hardware and authentic wood plugs. Stony Brook offers three bed options, each featuring maximum storage in styles created to appeal to boys of all ages. The first is a twin-over-twin bunk bed with the option to convert to a twin-over-full for more sleeping space and a loft bed feel. Space underneath can accommodate a trundle sleep unit for another bed or drawers on rollers for added storage. The second bed in the group is a standard arched panel headboard and footboard bed that includes decorative metal spindles and also has the trundle bed or drawers option. The final Stony Brook bed is a panel storage headboard and footboard with trundle unit or storage option, complete with decorative metal gallery rail, two drawers, four stationary shelves, and removable shelf. For the ultimate in storage, display and game and technology housing, Stony Brook offers a 55" tall media cabinet with retractable doors and optional bookcases. Versatile enough to be used in a bedroom or kids’ den, the cabinet offers adjustable and keyboard shelves and is fitted and fully wired to accommodate a computer and vertical CPU, computer monitor or television and video games or VCR/DVD. Stony Brook also offers a computer desk and hutch with metal gallery, pull-out keyboard shelf, stationary and adjustable shelves, corkboard back for wiring access and plenty of storage and work space. A number of storage pieces in various sizes are also offered for greater versatility, including a single three-drawer dresser with optional hutch, seven-drawer dresser, five-drawer chest, a door chest and night stand. A desk chair and a beveled mirror with cap hooks and decorative metal spindle inserts complete the collection. Emilia: Emilia takes its inspiration from a fusion of Swedish and 18th Century French design, for a traditional look with a distinctive European flavor. The collection’s Gustavian look, a style created by Swedish King Gustov from his trips to France in the 18th Century, gives the furnishings the elegance girls love and a stately, upscale beauty that is sophisticated enough for a second bedroom. Emilia features a relaxed antique buttermilk finish, Starlight, which has been distressed for a timeless heirloom quality. Some pieces include an intricate ribbon design detail, which can be removed, thereby allowing the furniture to change as the child matures. Whimsical carved daisy medallions and gadrooning detail (convex molding ornamented with inverted fluting, reeding or other continuous pattern) add charm, and cast metal hardware that has been painted and hand-rubbed adds to the timeworn quality of the collection. The collection’s triple dresser features a swivel, beveled glass dressing mirror with jewelry drawers and a removable ribbon design element on top. Carved details, including fluted drawer fronts, daisy flower medallions and base rail gadrooning, are integrated with the break front design element characteristic of all case pieces in this collection to add a sense of subtle motion. Additional Emilia storage and display pieces include a single dresser, a five-drawer chest, an armoire, a lighted glass door display chest and a nightstand. Technology and style culminate in Emilia’s entertainment hutch and computer desk with hutch. The entertainment hutch accommodates a 27" television and offers adjustable shelves, removable back panel and drawers with fronts that can flip down to serve as game or VCR/DVD storage while the group’s computer desk is complete with removable back and concealed CPU storage. Emilia offers three bed selections: a stately carved wood poster bed with graceful metal canopy, a painted and hand-rubbed metal bed with under-bed storage capabilities, and a elegantly detailed panel headboard and footboard. “In Stony Brook and Emilia, Thomasville has created youth furniture that offers the fresh new styles that will appeal to kids of all ages and the functionality, quality and versatility parents will be hard pressed to find in any other current youth collection,” Pfaff said.
