Trade Shows, Inc. Seeks "Hurricane Heroes" For Woodworking Industry's First WHO Award

Trade Shows, Inc. is seeking nominees for an award designed to recognize woodworking industry businesses which demonstrate humanitarian values. The North Carolina-based company-known for the woodworking and furniture supply shows it produces across the U.S. and Mexico-urges industry professionals to hurry: the deadline for nominations is January 10, 2000. The first Woodworkers Helping Others (WHO) Award will be presented to a company which made an outstanding effort to help the victims of Floyd, the hurricane that devastated Eastern North Carolina in September of 1999. The award recipient will be recognized at the Carolinas Woodworking & Furniture Supply Show®, to be held February 18 & 19, 2000 at the Greensboro Coliseum Complex, Greensboro, NC. "We urge everyone in the industry to help find our 'hurricane hero'," says Tricia Eidson, vice president of Trade Shows, Inc. "Maybe you know a company that organized a canned food drive, or one that sent a delegation of employees to the coast to help flood victims rebuild. Maybe it's your own company. We know there are a lot of generous woodworkers out there and we don't want to miss one-so if you're reading this article, we need you to be our eyes and ears." Trade Shows will make a $1,000 donation to the "Floyd relief" organization of the award recipient's choice. "Although Hurricane Floyd came through several months ago, there are plenty of people who still need help," Eidson adds. "We want to do our share." Nomination Guidelines For The 2000 WHO Award Any company associated with the woodworking industry is eligible; this includes businesses ranging from furniture makers and cabinet shops to machinery manufacturers and other suppliers to the industry. Nominees must have donated money, supplies (industry-related supplies such as furniture, lumber or tools, or non-industry related items like food or clothing), labor or other volunteer services to the victims of Hurricane Floyd. All nominations must be received by Trade Shows, Inc. by January 10, 2000. Submissions will be judged by a panel of woodworking and furniture experts.
