The Viscount David Linley leads off The Interior Design Show's star studded line-up of Speakers, Special Events and Participants for 2000

The Interior Design Show, Canada's premiere residential design event, announced a spectacular line-up of speakers, special events and participants for the Show, which returns to the Metro Toronto Convention Centre January 20-23, 2000. The Show organizers are promising an expanded event for the new millennium, with over 225 exhibitors. The Opening Preview Reception for IDS 2000 will take place Thursday, January 20, 2000, and is an exclusive opportunity for the trade and public to view the Show before anyone else! The evening will be a star-studded event featuring keynote speaker The Viscount David Linley. Lord Linley, son of Princess Margaret and Lord Snowdon, is a designer and cabinet-maker and Chairman of David Linley & Company Limited, a furniture and home accessories firm based in London, England. Lord Linley's presentation is titled "Extraordinary Furniture," and promises an exceptional trip through the ages of furniture design, highlighting pieces that are unusual because of their design, inventiveness, craftsmanship or extravagance. The half hour lecture also features a look at some of the pieces that David Linley himself has made. Lord Linley's presentation is sponsored in part by the British Council and will be featured at THE JAGUAR STAGE, sponsored by Jaguar Canada. The Opening Preview Reception will be a knock-out event, with the launch of four 600 sq.ft. "Interior Space: Designs for Living" installations sponsored by The Globe and Mail. The Opening Preview Reception is sponsored in part by Charles Khabouth of Guvernment and Charlie's. "Trade Talks" is the international lecture series featured on the Trade Day, Friday, January 21, 2000. Sponsored by AZURE, and The City of Toronto, and open to the design and architectural industry, the program will include presentations by Paris-based designer Christophe Pillet; London-based architect John Pawson (co-sponsored by the Faculty of Architecture, Landscape and Design at the University of Toronto and the British Council); New York-based architect/interior or designer Bill Sofield; and former principal designer at Knoll and outdoor furniture designer, Pennsylvania-based Richard Schultz. Presentations will be scheduled throughout the day at THE JAGUAR STAGE. "Canadian Design Heroes" is a new program open to the public on Saturday, January 22, 2000. Sponsored by PARA Paints and Canadian House and Home magazine, the series will feature lecture presentations by great Canadian design talent including architect Jack Diamond; interior designer Brian Gluckstein; furniture and product designer Helen Kerr and furniture designer, manufacturer and retailer Klaus Nienkamper. Presentations will be scheduled throughout the day at THE JAGUAR STAGE. "Design Talks" is a seminar series open to the public on Sunday, January 23, 2000. Sponsored by PARA Paints and Canadian House and Home magazine, the series will feature panel discussions on such topics as color trends, design directions for the new millennium, and how to work with an interior designer. Speakers will include Janice Lindsay, Pink, Color + Design; Paul Haft, fusionCREATIVE; David Lasker, Editor, Canadian Interiors; Karen von Hahn, Columinst, The Globe and Mail; Robert Thiemann, Editor, FRAME magazine (Holland); Libby Bullock, Libby Bullock Interiors Inc., and past President of the local chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and many more. Presentations will be scheduled throughout the day at THE JAGUAR STAGE. The Interior Design Show 2000 will feature a wide mix of designers, stellar retailers, showrooms and manufacturers who are on the leading edge of what's cool, contemporary and current in design today. Toronto has become THE center for design in Canada and is seeing an explosion of talent and companies that are bringing the world of design to our city. The Interior Design Show will take place at The Metro Toronto Convention Centre, North Building, 255 Front Street West, Toronto, January 20 -23, 2000. Public and the Trade will be welcome at the Opening Preview Reception on Thursday, January 20, 2000. Friday, January 21, 2000 the Show will be open to the Architectural and Design Trade only.
