On January 15, Eldred Wheeler of Hingham, Massachusetts is offering free educational tours of their handcrafted furniture hosted by Emmett Eldred, who originally co-founded Eldred Wheeler more than 26 years ago. A fun, educational event for families, the tours will prove entertaining for anyone interested in furniture, antiques, woodworking, and the history of fine American-made furniture. Date: Saturday, January 15 Times: 12:00 Noon to 4:30 PM, every half hour. Location: 55 Sharp Street, Hingham MA During the tours, visitors will witness the Eldred Wheeler craftsmen creating new furniture pieces, and Mr. Eldred will personally guide the tours, talking about the history and craftsmanship of fine furniture. Tour topics will include: -Origin of 18th Century American furniture styles and forms -History of joinery techniques including dovetail and mortise and tenon. -Finishes – Description of the ingredients of the 18th Century finish and the process of application Space is limited to ten guests per tour.
