Designer Liora Manne Gets 2005 Star Salute From Fashion Institute of Technology

Designer Liora Manne will be honored at the 2005 STAR SALUTE dinner sponsored by the Alumni Association of the Fashion Institute of Technology on Thursday, November 3, 2005 at the Rainbow Room. The star-studded annual event honors former students and distinguished industry leaders. Proceeds from the Star Salute Dinner benefit the Educational Development Fund, which funds scholarships and housing stipends for economically disadvantaged FIT students. Ms. Manne will receve the honor for her "innovative patented design and manufacturing processes, her creative entergy and the inspiration she provides to the design and textile industries." FIT salutes "the glorious combination of an Israeli sabra who became a George peach, Liora embodies the best of both cultures. After college, she went on to take her masters in textile design and engineering at North Carolina State University, the state that is the mecca of the home furnishings industry. She is the holder of several patent patents developed in her quest to achieve the felted look she wanted for her rugs. Liora's splendid, radiant patterns and colors, originally available only in her vibrant rug designs, are now part of a collection that includes chairs, lighting, tableware and fashion accessories such as handbags, jewelry and shoes."
