Bob's Discount Furniture, the fast-growing New England furniture retailer with 21 stores located throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey and New Hampshire, announced a series of events during the week of Feb. 26, 2006 designed to promote the National Education Association's "Read Across America Day" as well as the National Pajama Program. Originally created on Dr. Seuss' birthday as a one-day event to celebrate the joy of reading, "Read Across America" has developed into a nationwide initiative that encourages reading for school children on a daily basis. The National Pajama Program provides new pajamas and books to needy children and children waiting to be placed in permanent homes. During the week of February 27, 2006, Cathy Poulin, the famous co-host of Bob's Discount Furniture's TV, radio and print advertising campaign, will transform herself into "Reading Girl" and read various stories for children of all ages in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Maine and New Jersey. Poulin and her "Characters From the Bookshelf" will lead a reading session for the kids at this free event. By special request, green eggs and ham will be served along with other refreshments. The Cat In the Hat will be making a guest appearance and prizes will be awarded to the children attending the event. "Reading is so important during early childhood development. Unfortunately, many kids do not have the opportunities to form healthy reading and comprehension habits on a daily basis so we are hoping to promote new reading habits through these events," explained Poulin. During the week long educational campaign, Bob's Discount Furniture will be going one-step further to help children and conduct a drive to collect new pajamas and new or used books for the National Pajama Program. Awarding legendary singer Patti LaBelle as the "Mother of the Year 2006", the National Pajama Program collects and distributes pajamas and books to children who are in need and living in safe havens and foster homes. Parents and children of all ages are invited to one of the free reading sessions at a Bob's Discount Furniture Store on: Mon., Feb. 27th - Totowa, NJ (50 Rt. 46, 973.785.0159) location from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Tues., Feb. 28th - Southington, CT (835 Queen St., 860.620.1650) location from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Wed., March 1st - South Portland, ME (333 Clarks Pond Parkway, 207.523.1100) location from 10:30-12:30 p.m. Wed., March 1st - Nashua, NH (283 Daniel Webster Hwy., 603.888.6213) location from 2-4 p.m. Thurs., March 2nd - West Springfield, MA (135 Memorial Ave., 413.732.4200) location from 10:30-12:30 p.m. About Bob's Discount Furniture The fast-growing New England furniture retailer with 21 stores located throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey and New Hampshire, Bob's Discount Furniture has built strong brand awareness and customer loyalty through its unique shopping environment, customer service commitment and everyday low prices.
