Kane’s Furniture announced an in-store appearance by HGTV designer and host of “Designing for the Sexes,” Michael Payne, at the newly-opened Lakeland store located at 4685 US 98 North. Payne will be at the store Saturday, February 18 from 1-4 p.m., during which time he’ll hold informal seminars on designing and decorating the home, and answer any questions customers may have. He will also be available for autographs and to sign his new book, “Let’s Ask Michael: 100 Practical Solutions for Interior Design Challenges.” “With the burst of new growth in Lakeland, we feel that there’s a need for complimentary professional decorating advice, and we’re happy to have Michael help fill that role on Saturday,” said Bill Waszak, director of advertising, Kane’s Furniture. “Michael’s creativity and innovative design will inspire our customers to realize what they can do with Kane’s in their own homes.” After 10 years in the computer industry, Payne left behind his degree in physics and mathematics from Southampton University in England and pursued a career in interior design. Upon graduating from UCLA in 1980, he founded Michael Payne Design and currently serves clients both nationally and internationally. Payne is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and is a Certified Interior Designer in the State of California. According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, consumer spending in 2004 for furniture and bedding rose 8.6% from spending in 2003 to $77.9 billion.
