IKEA Breaks Ground On New Texas Store

IKEA a leading home furnishings retailer announced that on Wednesday, March 22 they will break ground on their new store in Round Rock, TX. The new store just north of Austin will join stores in Houston and the North Texas city of Frisco. IKEA Round Rock is scheduled to open in Spring 2007. The 21.5-acre site in Round Rock will include a 252,000 square-foot IKEA store that will employ approximately 300 new IKEA coworkers. Located at IH-35 and University Boulevard (formerly Chandler Road), and with more than 1,100 parking spaces, the store will reflect the unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. In addition to 10,000 exclusively designed items, the future IKEA Round Rock will feature four model homes, 50 room settings, a supervised children’s play area, and a 250-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries and salmon platters. Other family-friendly features will include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the showroom, baby care rooms, preferred parking, and play areas throughout the store.
