This holiday season, Slumberland Furniture announced that it is working to provide families in need with new beds through its annual Making Homes for the Holidays program. Slumberland, in conjunction with several industry partners, is donating approximately 1,800 mattresses, box springs, bed frames, pillows and blankets to major charities throughout the Midwest who will distribute them to families throughout their local communities. This year each bed donated by Slumberland will be accompanied by a new pillow and blanket thanks to contributions from Slumberland vendors, Glideaway Sleep Products (www.glideaway.com) and Genie B’s Specialties Inc. (www.GBSEnt.com), respectively. Simmons Bedding Company (www.simmons.com) and Sealy (www.sealy.com) also participated in the program by providing the mattress sets to Slumberland at a discounted price. “We believe that a good night’s sleep is one of the foundational blocks for good health. Thousands of people in the Midwest don’t have an adequate bed to sleep in or sleep on the floor. With Making Homes for the Holidays, we are doing our part in trying to get that number down to zero and improve the quality of people’s lives,” said Ken Larson, Slumberland founder and CEO. “In the sprit of giving, we are honored to do our part in helping Slumberland get so many families and children off the floor and into warm, new beds this holiday season,” said Ron Fredman, executive vice president of sales and sourcing for Glideaway Sleep Products. The Making Homes for the Holidays program began in 1993. Since then, Slumberland has donated more than 15,000 new mattresses and box springs to deserving families in the markets it serves. Last year saw the largest donation in the program’s history with 1,750 bed frames, mattresses and pillows donated to charities who distributed them to families in need. Through payroll deductions, Slumberland associates contributed more than $20,000 this year to the Making Homes for the Holidays program.
